Pocket torches are a bit smaller than regular models, and even though it may seem like an casual thing to do, choosing the right model might not be as easy as you think. There are a few things you need to consider, such as the size, style, type of light, price and where you'll use it.

Pocket torches are small models, and as the name suggests, they are kept in the pocket and should be just within a reach of an arm. You can use them while camping, or simply use them to illuminate your path, going into the basement, searching for things in the garage, you name it.

Many people find pocket torches to be practical, lightweight and easy-to-use flashlights. You can utilize it in many situations such as when you need to illuminate a dark place behind the counter or closet, find small pieces of jewellery that you dropped on the floor, fix things around the car, and so on. The great thing is that these torches are so slim and small that they can fit in your pocket. They are practical and easy to transport and you don't have to be a handyman or have a job related to electronics to use them.

A LED pocket light will brighten the object in front of you with long-lasting and bright light and the great thing is it will last for quite a long time. These torches come in various sizes and you can choose a different LED colour. Many people choose to attach their pocket torch to their keyring (that's how small and lightweight they are). You can also carry it in your purse, backpack or laptop bag.

It's ideal for various uses, and if you're an adventurer who loves cycling, camping, hiking, hunting or simply likes to be in nature, this type of torch can help you in many moments. It's a great thing to have when reading maps, searching for a clear space to set up your tent, fix your bike, or simply illuminate your path in a dark night in the middle of nowhere.

What to Consider

Lumens vs. Candela

These are units of measurement used to rate flashlights. The right balance between the two will help you select the depth of use. The main rating, lumen, calculates the total amount of light emitted; the higher the lumen count is, the higher the torch price will be. You don't always need the highest lumens, especially not for a pocket torch. Candela measures the light’s intensity and determines the flashlight’s suggested or intended purpose.

Flashlight Features

Bulbs

In the past torches used incandescent bulbs, but today things are changed, and all flashlights and torches use LED bulbs. LED lasts for a long time, it's eco-friendly, affordable and you won't have to be bothered moving parts or filament. LEDs are quite resistant to shock and draw a very low current which means that they aren't going to wear out your batteries. Compared to a typical incandescent bulb used to last seven or eight hours, LEDs are far more worthy of your time and many as they can last 100s to 1,000s of hours.

Batteries

When it comes to batteries, torches usually have either rechargeable or disposable batteries. Both have their pros and cons. For instance, rechargeable batteries come in two configurations; you can either recharge the battery while it’s placed inside the flashlight (like it's the case with phones) or remove the battery and then recharge it. The power cell has either NiMH or Li-ion. Rechargeable batteries last longer but are more expensive.

Lithium batteries have a better performance, especially when used in the cold and they also last longer. However, they are far more expensive. So, if you are going to use the batteries for emergencies, then alkaline batteries might be a better choice. Non-rechargeable batteries are quite cheap and lightweight. Small pocket torches use only non-rechargeable batteries, so you can't really choose. But it's all right since small pocket torches won't waste the batteries immediately (and chances are you will use them only for brief moments).

Light Colour

Most people would choose standard flashlights that use white light. However, you can choose models that offer other colours (depending on what you need). There are blue or ref filters that are great when you want to avoid detection (this makes them invisible from afar). Green is a good choice for night fishing due to the soft light that won't scare the fish away.

However, as you can guess, pocket flashlights come mainly in white LED light. And this is not a bad thing, since most people use these torches

for purposes as I mentioned above. You truly won't need to use blue or red filters for your pocket torch, nor it could be of great use if it's green since it won't help you to illuminate a big body of water.
